April 23-The Sun Stood Still

Joshua 9-10

Psalm 50:1-6

Proverbs 11:30-31

Luke 15:1-10

“So the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed its setting almost a full day. There has been no day like it before or since, when the Lord listened to the voice of a man, because the Lord fought for Israel.” Joshua 10:13-14

God’s purposes will be accomplished. When God makes a promise, He will make sure that it comes to pass. The Lord told Joshua that He was going to hand the five Amorite kings over to him. In order to bring that about, Joshua asked God to keep the sun in the sky for an extra 24 hours. Can you imagine? The sun did not set that day. Knowing what we know now about the rotation of the earth around the sun, that means that the earth stopped. The earth stood still for 24 hours and then it started again as if nothing had happened. Gravity was not disturbed, the other planets didn’t fall out of the sky and the ocean tides were not altered. Only the One who set the earth in motion could stall it. God is faithful. No matter what it takes, He will fulfill His promises. Nothing is too difficult for Him. “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” Jeremiah 32:17 “The Lord answered Moses, ‘Is the Lord’s arm too short? You will now see whether or not what I say will come true for you.” Numbers 11:23
