Christ in Me
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:19-20 HCSB
Christ was crucified for our sin. By faith, we trust that His death paid for our sin. We are crucified with Him, our sin died with Him on the cross. Our sinful self dies and is replaced by the resurrected Christ in us. We continue to live in our mortal bodies, but our lives are no longer controlled by our sinful selves but are now directed by our faith in Christ. While our sinful nature is still present and at work within us, we have the power of the Holy Spirit living within us as well to help us overcome the power of temptation and the pull of our sinful nature. The life we now live in the body is bound by the pull of this fallen world, but we live by faith in Jesus. Paul explains in this verse Jesus’ motive for dying for us. The law was meant to bind and restrict, but Jesus died to set us free. His love for us motivated Him to die a cruel death in order that we might live. We do not face this life alone. He is with us. Whatever we encounter, good or bad, He has gone before us and is beside us and is our rear guard. He surrounds us with His presence.
We are no longer in control of our lives. Christ has bought us. He has paid a very high price for us, and we belong to Him. He has saved us from death and Hell, and we owe our very lives to Him. He is Lord and we submit to His dominion and authority over every aspect of our lives. What areas do you need to submit to Him? Are there any areas you have been holding out control over? Ask Him to reveal to you if there is anything you need to relinquish to His authority. He is Lord!
