Eyewitness Testimony

“Go home to your people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.’ So, the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.” Mark 5:19-20 NIV

Jesus did not tell the demon-possessed man to go quote scripture to the people and tell them great theological truths. He told him to go tell his friends and family what He had done for him. He told him to explain to them how Jesus had mercy on him. We are afraid to talk to people about Jesus because we are afraid they are going to ask us questions we can’t answer. We don’t want to invite our coworker to church because they might ask us what we believe, and we aren’t sure we can explain it in a way they will understand. We try to make it far more complicated than it is. Jesus instructs us to just tell people what He has done for us and how He has had mercy on us. We don’t have to be able to quote a lot of scripture or explain biblical principles to them. We just tell them our story. An eyewitness in a courtroom who gives a testimony is supposed to tell the truth about what they saw. Expert witnesses give explanations about the testimony and its ramifications. Both sides in a case call their own experts to give testimony that supports their interpretation of the facts. The jury must decide which expert they want to believe, but they give much more weight to an eyewitness of the events. When someone tells you how Jesus has made a difference in their life, it is hard to ignore. This is what happened to me. I can’t tell you how or why, but Jesus came into my life, and He has given me peace. He forgave me for the bad things I have done. He helps me face the difficulties in my life. I know I can get through whatever comes, because He is there to help me and walk beside me every step of the way. Be an eyewitness today.
