Following God’s Rules

“You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. You must obey My laws and be careful to follow My decrees. I am the Lord your God. Keep My decrees and laws, for the man who obeys them will live by them. I am the Lord.” Leviticus 18:3-5 NIV

In the world we live in, it is becoming increasingly more unpopular to follow God’s rules. In this age of political correctness and not wanting to offend anyone, many Christians tiptoe around God’s standards. Unfortunately, even many Christian churches have watered down the gospel to such an extent that it is barely recognizable. God’s standards and rules are just as applicable to our lives today as they were when they were written. We cannot blatantly ignore Him and His Word and expect to receive His blessing.

The morals and standards of the culture around us are constantly changing. The world would have us believe that truth is relative and therefore subject to individual interpretation. The Bible tells us differently. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 (NIV) “All Your words are true; all Your righteous laws are eternal.” Psalm 119:160 (NIV) The standards set forth in scripture are not arbitrary. They have a purpose and are meant to help us live a peaceful, joyful life. Deviating from God’s plan brings consequences. He knows what is best for us and He loves us so much that He wants us to “have life and have it to the full.” John 10:10 (NIV) Do not do as they do in the land where you live; follow God’s rules, keep His statutes, and walk in them.
