Harvest
“He told them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.” Luke 10:2 NIV
There were multitudes of people who listened to Jesus’ teaching. Everywhere He went crowds surrounded Him. People wanted to hear what He had to say. In our reading yesterday, Jesus explained to them the cost of following Him. Shortly after that, Jesus sent out those who were willing to pay the price. He tells them that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. There are multitudes of people who need to know about Jesus, but very few people to tell them. That is just as true today as it was in Jesus’ day. Everywhere we look, we can find people who need to know that God loves them. We don’t have to go to Africa or India or the other side of the world to find people who need to hear about Jesus. We are not all called to be missionaries or preachers or evangelists, but we are all called to tell others about Jesus. There are people around us every day who desperately need to know what God is doing in our life. They need to see the difference He makes and hear how He can make a difference in their life, too. Pray that God will provide opportunities for you to talk to your coworker who is having problems in her marriage, or that friend at school whose parents are getting a divorce. Pray for a chance to ask that friend you met at the gym or that soccer mom you see at the ball field each week to come to church with you. God will provide opportunities for us to tell others and He will give us the words to say. All we have to do is be willing.
