He Keeps His Promises
“Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to the house of Israel failed; everyone was fulfilled.”
Joshua 21:45 NIV
For God to go back on a promise would be against His very nature. The character of God is behind His promises. Since He knows what will happen in the future, He can make promises based on what will be done. When I make promises to people, I have every intention of carrying them out. I do not make promises that I do not plan to keep. But I cannot control all the variables. When I am making a promise, I am saying that if I can in any way bring it about, I will. Unfortunately, sometimes things change that are beyond my control; things that I had no way of knowing when I made the promise. That does not happen to God. He does not get surprised. He knows everything that will happen in the future so He knows that He will bring about what He has promised. For Him to make a promise and not keep it, He would have to be lying because He knows He will not fulfill it. We know that God does not lie. He is truth. “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23 (NIV) “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so, through Him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV) “Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made.” Psalm 145:13 (NIV) God fulfilled every promise He made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He gave the children of Israel all the land that He had promised to give them. He handed it over into their hands. He made them into a great nation and through Jesus all nations would be blessed through the seed of Abraham. God was faithful to His promises then and He is just as faithful to His promises today.
