Psalm 16:1-6

Proverbs 3:15-16

Matthew 15:21-39

My Portion

“Lord, you are my portion and my cup of blessing; you hold my future.”

Psalm 16:5

This verse is a source of great comfort. You, Lord, hold my future. I have no way of knowing what tomorrow brings. I do not know how many tomorrows I have. I can plan and prepare for what I think tomorrow will hold. We are told often in scripture to be wise and plan for our future. We should be diligent and good stewards of the resources God has blessed us with today and use those resources to help plan for our future. But in doing so, we should not rely solely on our own understanding, but we should acknowledge him in all our decisions so that he can direct our paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6) He can see our tomorrows and He can direct our steps today to prepare us for our tomorrows. Even though we cannot know the future, by following His leading we can go into tomorrow confidently knowing that he has gone before us and prepared the way for us. He has planned each of our steps to make sure that we are fully equipped to meet the needs of tomorrow. This is true from a monetary standpoint, but it is even more true from an emotional and spiritual standpoint. He is putting things into our life today that will develop qualities and attributes that we will need to equip us for what our tomorrows hold. If, however, we are not acknowledging Him today and we are leaving Him out of our decisions and plans, we are not benefitting from His wisdom and we will be ill equipped to face our tomorrows. He is my portion and my cup of blessing. I do not want to miss out on what He has planned for me.
