Provision

“All creatures look to You to give them their food at the proper time.  When You give it to them, they gather it up; when You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good things.”

Psalm 104:27-28 NIV

God is our loving Father and He cares for us.  He is faithful and will meet all our needs.  This passage emphasizes God’s care over His creation.  In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus tells us that we do not have to worry about what we will eat or drink, or what we will wear.  He points to the birds of the air and the lilies of the field as proof that God cares for His own.  He promises that if we “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, all these things will be added to us.”  (vs. 33)  This is not a universal promise that there will not be hunger, famine, or poverty.  We only have to look at the world around us to know that isn’t accurate.  This promise says that if we will trust God and seek Him in everything we do, He will take care of us.  As believers, we are His children.  As a father provides for and takes care of his children, so our heavenly Father provides for and takes care of His children.  If we trust Him and seek Him in all that we do, He will not let us down.  We can rely on Him.  He may not give us everything we want because He knows that everything we want is not best for us, but He will provide for our needs and take care of us.  Philippians 4:19 assures us, “And my God will fulfill all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”  LSB  2 Corinthians 9:8 says, “And God is able to make every grace abound to you, so that in everything at every time having every sufficiency, you may have an abundance for every good deed.” LSB  Psalm 34:10 promises, “The young lions do lack and suffer hunger, but they who inquire of Yahweh shall not be in want of any good thing.” LSB  And Psalm 23 describes God as our loving shepherd who takes care of His sheep.  Verse 1 says, “Yahweh is my shepherd, I shall not want.”  When we rest in Him, we can rely on His provision and care.

God is faithful.  He will not go back on His promises.  “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.  I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.’  The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him;  it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”  Lamentations 3:22-26 NIV  “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”  Hebrews 10:23 LSB  Trust Him.  Rely on Him.  He won’t let you down.
