“As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.  When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it.  Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset.”  Exodus 17:11-12 NIV

I feel so blessed to have many precious, godly friends.  Looking back over my life, I can see that God placed different people in my life at just the right time to help me through whatever I was experiencing.  And He has allowed me the privilege of being available at just the right time to help friends who needed me.  He does not expect us to go through this journey alone.  God provided Moses with Aaron to help him lead the people in the wilderness.  David had Jonathan.  Even Jesus had twelve disciples to walk with Him in ministry.  We are here to hold each other’s arms up.  It may take the form of hours of prayer on behalf of a friend who has strayed, a shoulder to cry on when her marriage is falling apart, or holding her hand as she battles cancer or faces the death of a loved one.  It may be a gentle reminder to seek God’s wisdom before making a decision, or a Bible verse to help guide her in the right direction.  It may be hours spent in God’s Word together trying to figure out what He is telling you to do.  Ecclesiastes 4:10 tells us “If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.  But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” (NIV)

Thank God today for the friends He has given you.  Ask Him to show you ways you can hold up the arms of your friends to help them accomplish God’s purposes.  When God calls us to complete a task for Him, He will provide other people to help us along the way.  Sometimes that may mean setting aside our own agenda for a while to help someone else, or it may mean putting aside our pride and accepting help from others.
