The Value of God’s Word
“The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom; and their tongue speaks what is just. The law of their God is in their heart; their feet do not slip.” Psalm 37:30-31 NIV
Many of the problems we face are a result of poor choices and a lack of wisdom. The righteous man seeks God and spends time studying God’s Word. He has the law of God in his heart, and he does what it says. Obedience to God’s Word protects us from many of the snares that cause us to stumble. “I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You.” Psalm 119:11 (NIV) “Your Word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105 (NIV) “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) God is the source of all wisdom. “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 (NIV) “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7 (NIV) “Oh, how I love Your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on Your statutes. I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey Your precepts. I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey Your Word. I have not departed from Your laws, for You Yourself have taught me. How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from Your precepts; therefore, I hate every wrong path.” Psalm 119:97-104 (NIV) We cannot expect to have wisdom unless we spend time seeking the One who is the source of all wisdom. Our decisions, our actions and the words that come out of our mouth will be the evidence of the time and attention we give to God’s Word.
