The Way
“Jesus told them, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
John 14:6 NIV
In this one statement, Jesus makes it absolutely clear that He is the only way to get to God. He is removing all doubt. All the other world religions that are available now and have been available since the beginning of time are attempts by Satan to distract and deceive. All other gods, (Buddha, Baal, Allah, Zeus, Shiva, Venus, etc.), are false gods made up by man under the influence of Satan. Jesus is not only saying that there is one true God; He is saying that He is the only way to get to that God. The Jewish people of His day worshipped the one true God, but they were not willing to accept that Jesus was God’s Son, the Messiah. Jesus was making a definitive statement that He is the One. The idea that there are many ways to get to God is a lie. Satan does not have to convince people to worship him. All he needs to do is convince people to worship anything other than Jesus. He does not appear with a pitchfork, horns and a red suit looking evil and menacing. He comes clothed in tolerance, acceptance, “having it your way”, and “getting what you deserve.” His message is appealing and enticing. “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)
In our politically correct culture, this seems to be closed-minded and intolerant. Who are we to say that we know the right way and everyone else is wrong? This message is not culturally sensitive. But it is truth. This is not just my opinion. It is Jesus’ own words. God created the universe and He created us. He gets to decide how people come to Him. We don’t get a vote on what seems fair or preferable to us. He provided one way, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 (KJV) We cannot be wishy washy about our beliefs. We cannot just believe what we want to and let everyone else believe what they want and not get involved. If we believe Jesus is God’s Son and we believe what the Bible says then we know that anyone who does not believe these truths, no matter how nice and good they are, is going to Hell. It is not loving and accepting to let them continue to believe the lies of Satan. We have a responsibility to tell as many people as we can about Jesus. They may choose to believe Satan’s lies and we cannot force them to believe the truth, but we must tell them. I know it is uncomfortable. I know it is difficult, but the alternative is eternal damnation. We cannot be content to say nothing if we truly care about them.
