Trust

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

This is a passage that is familiar to most Christians. Many of us even have it memorized. It can be found on plaques, bookmarks, and bumper stickers. Myriad sermons have been preached on the topic and numerous books have been written on it. But how many of us put it into practice? Do we really trust in the Lord with all our hearts? Do we rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit even when we don’t understand? Do we acknowledge Him in ALL our ways? Our God is completely faithful and trustworthy. He knows everything. He knows what is going on around us that we cannot see. He knows our past and our future. He truly knows what is best for us. And He wants us to know what that is. He’s not trying to keep it from us. But we must ask. We must submit to Him in all our ways, and He will make our paths straight.

Nothing is too small to talk to God about. If we ask Him about all the little things, we can often avoid bigger problems arising. Whenever we have a decision to make, our first order of business should be to pray and ask for God’s guidance. Acknowledging Him in every situation makes us receptive to His guidance. When we focus our eyes and our mind on Jesus, He can lead us and help us make the right decisions in every circumstance. Our part is to trust and acknowledge. He will do the rest.
