Matthew 25:1-13

Where Do I Place My Trust?

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.  They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. Lord, give victory to the king!  Answer us when we call!”

Psalm 20:7-9 NIV

These verses have really come home to me in the last several months.  I have had to examine my life and let the Lord reveal to me that I place far too much trust in the horses and chariots that this world offers.   Peace and joy do not come from things.  I would have told you I believed that before, but He has graciously shown me that I put too much emphasis on financial security.  I believe it is important to be good stewards of the money He has entrusted to us, but we cannot place our security and trust in anything other than Christ.  The things of this world can be taken away in an instant.  A global pandemic, economic lockdowns, racial and political unrest, fear, and uncertainty have rocked our world this year.  Our relationship with the Lord is the only thing that cannot be taken from us.  “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalm 18:2 (NIV) He alone is worthy of my trust.  Nothing I face surprises Him.  He has either allowed it or has caused it to come into my life and He will help me deal with it.  Peace and joy come from giving Him control, allowing Him to guide my steps, and trusting that He knows what He is doing.  He loves me completely and unconditionally and will always make the decisions that are in my best interest.
