Romans Road

The Romans Road to salvation is a way of explaining the good news of salvation using verses from the Book of Romans. It is a simple yet effective method of explaining why we need salvation, how God provided salvation, how we receive salvation and the results of salvation.

1. “For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

2. “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

We have all sinned. We have all done things that are displeasing to God. Romans 3:10-18 gives a detailed picture of what sin looks like in our lives. The punishment that we have earned for our sins is death. Not just physical death, but eternal death and separation from God.

3. “But God demonstrated His own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

Jesus Christ died for us! Jesus’ death paid the price for our sins. Jesus’ resurrection proves that God accepted Jesus’ death as the payment for our sins.

4. “If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10

5. “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13

Because of Jesus’ death on our behalf, all we must do is believe in Him, trusting His death as payment for our sins and we will be saved! Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sins and rescue us from eternal death. Salvation, the forgiveness of sins, is available to anyone who will trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

6. “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1

7. “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1

8. “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present or the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

These verses give us the results of salvation. Through Jesus we can have a relationship with God. We are not condemned for our sins because Jesus has been punished in our place. And nothing can ever separate us from the love of God.

If you google Romans Road, you will find several variations of this plan of salvation, but they are all similar. I think this one from Got Questions explains the basics in an understandable and concise way. I would suggest putting these verses on index cards stapled or joined on a ring with the verses on one side and the explanation on the other. Keep them in your bible, your purse, your car or somewhere that is readily available to you so that if the opportunity arises for you to tell someone about Jesus, you will be able to pull it out and explain it to them without having to memorize anything or stress about where to find the verses. You can expound on it from your personal experience, but this gives you the basic points that are important for them to grasp.

I hope you have benefitted from our overview of Romans over the past couple of weeks. In Romans, Paul provides us with the systematic theology of the New Testament. It is critical to understanding the foundation of our faith.
